The 692 and 690 have similar barrels, the chokes system is the same but the forcing is is shorter in the 690 about 5 inches vs. 14 inches in the 692. I own a 686 and a 692, my 692 is on it's way back from the factory for an ejector repair, I would buy a 692 again it really is a good shooter. The stock wood on the test gun is dark with attractive veining, and the fit of wood to metal is very good. The decoration around the action is a mixture of scroll, ribbon and stylised foliate work, which I felt was attractive and novel.
